PRACE Summer of HPC award ceremony took place at Cineca on 1 December 2016 in Bologna, Italy.
Summer of HPC is a PRACE programme that offers university students the opportunity to spend two months in the summer at HPC centres accross Europe. The students work using HPC resources on projects that are related to PRACE work with the goal to produce a visualisation or a video.
The PRACE booth team welcomed more than 600 visitors during the exhibition days at SC16 in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA. PRACE experts presented different PRACE activities: Peer Review, SHAPE (SME HPC Adoption Programme in Europe), Training and Education at the PRACE booth to SC16 attendees. Furthermore PRACE was delighted to welcome two external speakers: Toni Collis, Director of Women in HPC and Sidharth Kumar, University of Utah, USA. This year PRACE provided for the first time a shared space to the EXDCI project (European Extreme Data & Computing Initiative).
PRACE is pleased to announce that three contractors were awarded in the third and final phase of its Pre-commercial Procurement (PCP).

This year’s Digest offers the reader an interesting variety of industrial PRACE supported projects and their results. In the Editorial Anders Rhod Gregersen, Chief Specialist at Vestas Wind Systems A/S (Denmark) and Chair of the PRACE Industrial Advisory Committee highlighted the importance for European companies to have access to PRACE infrastructure. The PRACE SHAPE programme offers European SME’s the resources of PRACE High Performance Computing to increase their competitiveness. This is the second time the PRACE Digest focus on Industry.

On behalf of PRACE, Prof Dr Anwar Osseyran, director of SURFsara and Chair of the PRACE Council is delighted to welcome Serge Bogaerts (MSc) as the new Managing Director of PRACE aisbl. Serge will support the transition to PRACE 2 in his new full-time role. As Secretary of the PRACE Council he already gathered extensive knowledge of PRACE.
The PASC17 Conference is pleased to announce that the online submissions portal (https://submissions.pasc-conference.org) is now open and ready to receive proposals for papers, minisymposia and posters. The PASC17 Conference, co-sponsored by the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), will be held from June 26 to 28, 2017, at the Palazzo dei Congressi in Lugano, Switzerland.
