Education opportunity: MSc
Academic institution: RWTH Aachen University
Title: Simulation Sciences
Simulation Sciences primarily focuses on the computing aspects of simulation and provides the freedom to simulate any aspect from physics. The special feature of the interdisciplinary Master’s Program is the training of scientists and engineers enabling them to handle the continuously growing applications of high-performance computers in science and engineering. Students will be given basic training in the methodological principles of computer simulation and, depending on their personal choice, will then complete an application-¬oriented or methodology¬-oriented program. The course takes four semesters and consists of mandatory and elective courses and a Master’s thesis. In the mandatory courses the students acquire the basic knowledge, which will enable them to deal rapidly with problems in the field of Simulation Sciences. To effectively prepare them for research work after the first semester students have the choice of focusing on simulations in engineering or simulations in physics. Moreover, students’ individual choice of elective courses gives them the opportunity to tailor the focus of their personal program – either application or method-¬oriented, interdisciplinary or subject-specific. The Master’s thesis is a written document giving students the opportunity to demonstrate their ability to work independently and scientifically on a problem from the field of simulation sciences.
